Summary:
We are seeking a CNC Machinist Level III who will be responsible for developing efficient, accurate, and safe CNC machine programs, selecting the best available cutting tools, and operating machinery with minimal supervision. This role involves creating precise tool offsets, applying advanced machining practices, and replacing or qualifying new tooling as needed. The Machinist Level III leverages extensive knowledge of materials, tooling, and machine capabilities to ensure optimal performance and production efficiency.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School/GED Diploma or trade schools certificate a plus
- Requires minimum of eight (8) years of machining experience on CNC equipment (will substitute up to two (2) years of experience with equivalent length of formal training)
- Training in general safety and Foreign Object Damage (FOD)
- Proficient with CAD/CAM software
- Strong understanding of basic math, including arithmetic, geometry, and trigonometry, for accurate part measurement, setup, and tool adjustments
- Intermediate geometric, dimensioning, and tolerancing (GD&T) skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant CNC Machine Operator certifications
- Experience working within a Quality Management System (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Owns personal measuring, inspection, hand, cutting and setup tools
Responsibilities:
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively, adapting to workload demands
- Solid understanding of geometric (G) and miscellaneous (M) codes
- Proficient on CNC machine processes and capabilities
- Capable of performing development work and providing feedback as needed, without supervision
- Excellent Programming Skills and understands/is familiar with programming edits
- Adept at interpretation of drawings and specifications
- Monitor and manage the inventory of materials and consumables required for operations
- Monitor and control the use of materials to minimize waste and reduce costs
- Adjust tool and work offsets as needed to maintain tolerances in accordance with specifications delineated on technical drawings
- Comply with all data collection activities and documentation
- Report all non-conformances to the Shop Supervisor
- Utilize shop floor data collection systems to accurately log work performed, machine usage, and time tracking
- Experience working within a Quality Management System (e.g., ISO 9001)
- Participate in root cause analysis for recurring quality issues and recommend corrective actions and document
- Perform preventive maintenance of CNC Machines and equipment
- Adhere to Environmental, Health and Safety policies, company safety and quality standard
- Work closely with Quality Control (QC) to continuously improve quality standards
- Maintain a clean workspace
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May be assigned supervision and training of Level I and Level II machinists
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift 45 lbs
- May be required to stand for extended periods
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as needed
- Specific vision abilities required, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception
Work Environment:
A CNC machine shop environment is a fast-paced, precision-driven setting. Employees work in a climate-controlled facility with frequent standing and handling of metal parts and tools. Noise levels are moderate to high, requiring safety equipment, including hearing protection. The position has the potential for extended hours and occasional travel.
